Romantic or Funny Story: My engagement took alot of thought on my part, I am the groom to be and most of our friends had already gotten engaged, so I needed something different to stand out in our heads and have a great memory that will last a lifetime for us. So I decided to put a little easter idea together. Since we usually visit all of our family on easter I thought what better day to have our engagement. So for months I was thinking what to do, I could have just put it in an egg and called it a day, but I wanted this to be a little different and I thought maybe just having the ring in an egg had already been done.....so I took that idea and went one step further. I had 4 large plastic eggs and 4 small plastic eggs and inside each of the large eggs was a small egg with a line from a poem (that I made up) on the outside. Each line of the poem was on paper and attached to the small egg. So on easter, we wake up and usually have a little time with just us, so we sat down in our living room and gave eachother our easter baskets. I was opening mine as she would open hers, but I kept an eye out for when she got to the egg (my luck, it was the last thing she got to). So she opens the egg and the line reads "Inside this egg is something filled with jelly" (Jelly beans). At this point she just says "Oh, jelly beans" and goes on to eat them. At this point we have to go to my parents house to wish them a happy easter and give them their baskets as well. So before we left I snuck into the car and left another basket on her seat of the car with the 2nd egg in it. After we get ready we go to get in the car and she sees the basket and asks who it is for. I tell her "I guess the easter bunny left it for whoever is sitting in the passenger seat today", which was her (I drive everywhere). So as we are driving she opens up her second egg, and the line reads "Inside this egg is something for your belly" (Life Savers). So now we have 2 lines of my 4 lined poem done and still she hasn't put anything together. Ok, so to refresh the memory, the 1st line read "Inside this egg is something filled with jelly" (Jelly Beans) and the 2nd read "Inside this egg is something for your belly" (Life Savers). So now to my parents house, oh and before I forget, my parents are in on the whole thing as well. Now at my parents house we both recieve baskets from them as well, so with my mom & dad involved, she had another egg in that basket as well and on this egg the line reads "Inside this egg is something to spice up your life" (Red Hots). Still not putting it all together she is clueless. Now it is off to her cousins house where all of her family gathers for holidays and it is alot of family. So you can understand why I was so nervous, I am on the 4th and final egg and we are going to be with her whole family....So we get to her cousins house and I have her brother, his fiance and their son (who is 1 1/2 at the time) in on this as well. So about an hour into getting there I have her brothers son (her nephew) grab the last egg in a basket and bring it over to her. So now she is paying attention to how cute her nephew is bringing her an easter basket that she isn't paying attention to me, perfect opportunity to get on my knee. She gets the basket and continues to open the last and final egg and the last line of the poem reads "Inside this egg is something asking if you will be my wife". Her face just started to glow and her facial expression was indescribable, it couldn't have been more perfect and she couldn't have been more surprised. So now that my story is all said and done. Here are the 4 lines to my poem.
1. Inside this egg is something filled with jelly (Jelly Beans)
2. Inside this egg is something for your belly (Life Savers)
3. Inside this egg is something to spice up your life (Red Hots)
4. Inside this egg is something asking if you will be my wife (Ring)
I had to keep the poem playful so that she really wouldn't catch on but nice enough to remember it forever.
