A Very Merry Un-1st-Birthday
There was no stone unturned with this awesome Alice in Wonderland-themed 1st birthday party at one of our favorite Long Island restaurants, Testarosa, in Syosset. It was designer heaven! Baby August was turning one and this was going to be a first birthday party to remember. The theme was more in line with the original Lewis Carroll drawings, rather than the Walt Disney version, which meant we were drawing inspiration from antiques, and red, black and white for the color scheme.
Antique clock faces, tea pots, cups and saucers, miniature potion bottles, and much more adorned each table with various editions of Alice in Wonderland stories and artwork. We were charged with created a "woodsy" look with rose bushes that looked as if the Queen had just demanded to "paint the roses red!" We had a blast. We hung various antiques and custom artwork, including paint brushes and clock faces, from each centerpiece as well. We also worked with our print design partners to create various pieces of custom artwork featuring Alice in Wonderland characters, including a "pin the grin on the cat" game.
Every bit of this birthday party was tons of fun for us, but perhaps our favorite task was creating a "rabbit hole" for people to walk through. Upon arrival, guests were transported into Wonderland through an archway of curly willow decorated with curiosities just like Alice saw in the original story. It really set the tone for a fun afternoon where guests were then treated to a game of the Queen's croquet, a photo booth, a delicious Wonderland-themed candy bar, and the most unreal birthday cake we have ever seen (designed by A Cake in Time in Mt. Sinai).
Hurry along and have a look at the pictures! You won't want to be late for this important date, and don't worry, you haven't gone bonkers, we all became a little mad designing for this Wonderland-themed party.
